Unkie Cliff offers up a follow-up to Poppachubby's recent Katie Webster post with her classic Flyright recordings from 1958-61.Webster is at her full bayou-bred boogie-blues best here, when she was the queen of south Louisiana's swamp sessioneers. Webster's own late-'50s/early-'60s output for producer J.D. Miller was no less captivating; her self-named dance number "The Katie Lee" and "Mama Don't Allow" -- which uproots the Gary U.S. Bonds party vibe to New Orleans -- are two of the best items on the 20-track disc. There's also her blues-drenched "No Bread, No Meat" and a nice version of "Sea of Love" (Webster added the gently rolling piano to Phil Phillips' original hit). AMG

all those Miller sessions are worthwhile and are being reposted at Uncle Gil's (http://unclegil.blogspot.com/) so if you don't have them already go grab 'em!! There's 54 volumes or so . . . .
Too bad I was able to see Mrs. Webster only in '96 at the Mediterranean Blues Cruise, she was suffering from the stroke she had few years before and Kate Webster was just the representation of herself, sad.
But no matter what, it was still possible to catch a glimpse of the real power the lady represented.

Katie Webster rocks and epitomizes so much about bayou Texas blues to me. I regret that I only discovered her after her death. The doc is absolutely right; the legendary Jay Miller sessions are all ripe for the picking at Uncle Gil's. So far he's posted twenty seven including Ms. Webster.
