Stompin' 5

Well, here is the last of the CD volumes of this series that I can offer - if you use the Stompin' tag below and look in the notes of Vol 1, you will see nice, fast links for volumes 6-27 - but a note is necessary - these are from the original LP series which is formatted completely differently from the CD's. The files originated from the "rideyourponytwighlightzone " fellahs a couple years ago.

Frankly, if anyone has more of these CD versions. I'd still like to feature those as I prefer the composition of them so far.

Stompin' 5 is another entertaining collection of 'A minus' to 'B plus' material culled from singles cut on various small east coast labels. Great jukebox material here, no hidden wonders or anything, but not a bad track in the bunch either.

Stompin' 4

I'm staring at that back cover and the names and I'm shaking my head in wonder....now I DO know Jessie Allen because he's a New Orleans guy, but after that .... ..... yeah, I got Nothing! Who are these guys? I mean, if I was someone who didn't know squat....but really?

I've got one more of these but it appears we may be getting a bunch more from a new friend!!

Stompin' 3

One word that I would have to say stays in mind listening to these tracks is the word 'raw'. Most of these tracks have some warts or flaws in something, but one thing for sure too, they are all FUN and the good always seems to out weight the weaknesses.

I notice there are more Rock-A-Billy influenced tracks here than I recall on the first two volumes. At least this one has 3 whole names that I know; Billy Wright, LaVern Baker and Carol Fran but the rest....who?....wow, okay.

Stompin', Vol. 2

They certainly dug deep for this set. Only two names here that I know, Lowell Fulson and Jimmy McCracklin, maybe Lord Tennyson but you get the picture - obscure stuff!

note: I downloaded these from somewhere a year or two ago but then burned them to disc for storage because my hard drive was nearly full - anyway, given that they are mono files, I made them larger than necessary when I extracted them from the discs, sorry about that - it doesn't seem to have affected how they sound.

Stompin' 1 - 21 Crazed Rhythm 'N' Blues Pounders!

This is the first of at least 33 volumes in this series but I've got to let y'all know up front that I only have the first 5. The series appears to be the sole output of a label called Stompin' that is a sub-label of a small New York reissue house called Norton Records. They sell from their site and are also available from Roots & Rhythm. A look at their catalog leaves me gape-jawed by the obscurity of most of it - where the hell do they find this shit?

Speaking of obscure, just look down the list of these tracks! I believe that I've heard more of this kind of music than most folks and I only know a couple of these names! Often the music will be familiar but these are not the versions you know. My fear that these would turn out to be obscure for good reason was unfounded, this stuff is very entertaining!
