Henry Butler - Orleans Inspiration

Hello.  My name is poppachubby.  You may remember me from such blogs as The Crypt and The Cult.  I also brought you classic like those found at Chitlins.

Found this CD a while back at a local thrift for a couple bucks... score!!!  Just a really feel good album y'know?  Ripped it with EAC for 16/44.1 FLAC files.  All scans are hi-res and included.  Enjoy!!!
Henry Butler, who had recorded a pair of post-bop sets for MCA/Impulse, switches to New Orleans R&B on this spirited program, cut live at Tipitina's in New Orleans. Assisted by guitarist Leo Nocentelli, bassist Chris Severin, drummer Herman Jackson, and the synthesizer of Michael Goods, Butler puts on a fine show. He plays and sings (in a gospel-ish baritone voice) a variety of originals, plus Leonard Bernstein's "Somewhere," "Goin' Down Slow," and Professor Longhair's "Tipitina's" and "Mardi Gras in New Orleans." - Scott Yanow / AMG

These days I think Henry is out in the Bay Area, he has been playing Trad Jazz the last decade or so. Always an interesting and funny guy - he decided to be a photographer at one point, and he likes to drive and yes he IS blind!

For the second time in his life he has been the first issuance of an Impulse relaunch - 2014
album with Steve Bernstein of Sex Mob

I have the Butler-Bernstein album. Its very good and contains some unique takes on old standards. Thanks for the post on Butler, poppa. I had this album, but the bitch who's anniversary is fast approaching, took it from me.

We can't be forgetting Poppa C. Hadn't seen you in the blogosphere for a while...or maybe I'm not looking in the right places :-)
Looks like a nice bit of Henry Butler. Ta.

Btw, any luv out there for "Vu-Du Menz" that he cut with Corey Harris? Always liked that one.

Somehow I managed to live more than five decades without having heard Henry Butler and, although dismayed at my ignorance, I'm elated to discover him and see your name as a contributor of music here again, Poppachubby. When you show up and post here, it's always worth listening to and reflects the broadness and eclectic excellence of your taste. Thanks so much. By the way, Winter's just around the corner up there above the forty ninth parallel, isn't it?

Hey guys I have been busy with my kids enjoying the summer. I had to step back from the blogging but in the winter I will have more time. Glad I am remembered lol.

nice. I only know Butler from one of his Impulse albums (with some heavy company: Charlie Haden, Billy Higgins, and Freddie Hubbard!), so I'm looking forward to hearing him in more of a New Orleans bag. thanks for this, and good to see you posting again!
